Overview
Kaikōura is often considered the best place in New Zealand to photograph a wide variety of albatross, and other pelagic bird species, in their natural habitat. This is your chance to photograph these amazing seabirds close up. On this workshop we take two private boat trips to the feeding grounds where the birds congregate, and we enjoy ample opportunities to capture in-flight and on-the-water behaviours.
This New Zealand bird photo workshop is limited to just 4 participants so book your place today. We welcome you to join us on this exciting photography adventure!
Itinerary
Day 1: Kaikōura
Arrive at the township of Kaikōura anytime from 3:00pm. After checking in to our accommodation we will meet for dinner and discuss the following morning's boat trip.
Day 2: Kaikōura
After an early breakfast we meet at the boat launching area and begin our private charter trip. Along the way to the feeding grounds we may encounter dolphins, seals and possibly even orca. We return to land later in the morning. After lunch we meet together to discuss the morning's photography and iron out any issues experienced when photographing. Following this there will be a group image processing session, with advanced techniques explained and demonstrated.
Day 3: Kaikōura
This morning is a repeat of yesterday: an early breakfast before we head out on the water again. Each day brings different sea conditions so expect to experience something new. The workshop concludes around midday.
Coastal conditions in New Zealand are subject to frequent change. Our intention is to assess the prevailing weather and coordinate the boat trips accordingly.
