Phillip: Since founding New Zealand’s first photography workshop company in 2005, I have been privileged to guide, and teach, photographers from around the world, from absolute beginners to respected professionals. Our vision is to offer a professional-style landscape photography experience where photographers are shooting at key locations at the most productive times, and are also guided to little-known wilderness areas away from the standard tourist routes. We keep our group size to only six participants to ensure guests enjoy a higher level of individual attention and photographic instruction in the field, with the added bonus of the ability to access areas not possible with larger groups. Also, with only six photographers we do not get in each other’s way when shooting.
In my constant search for new perspectives and vistas, I have explored this island nation from top to bottom, from mountains to rainforest to fiords to coastlines, and am intimately familiar with weather nuances, the range of seasonal opportunities and very special hidden locations off the beaten track. It is a real pleasure to use this valuable knowledge to help visiting photographers capture magical and unique images they otherwise would have never gotten. I love being out in New Zealand’s great outdoors accompanied by other passionate photographers. The excitement of chasing great light never wanes, and the fun and friendship we all enjoy on a workshop makes it hard to part company at the end of each expedition.
